THE LANDAU AT THE LANGHAM
Once the ballroom of the newly reopened former grand hotel, the Landau offers posh and interesting European haute-cuisine with plenty of fish, and it’s quickly becoming a hot spot for afternoon tea. 1c Portland Place, Regent Street, GB W1B 1JA, tel: 020 7636 1000

HELEN DARROZE AT THE CONNAUGHT
The hotel – one of London’s most luxurious – was built in 1897. It has recently come through an 18-month refurbishment, with Michelin-starred Darroze ushering in a new era with her blazingly excellent, beautiful restaurant. Carlos Place, W1K 2AL, tel: 020 7499 7070

1901@ANDAZ
Formerly Aurora, the Hyatt-owned 1901 is a stunning example of the powers of refurb. The hotel was built in 1884 and the room boasts splendid high ceilings, pillars and stained glass. The food is modern and middling, and not cheap. 40 Liverpool Street EC2M 7QN, tel: 020 7961 1234
