BROCKET HALL
Just 22 miles north of London, Brocket Hall is a spectacular location with two championship courses which are at their most beautiful in autumn. There is also a driving range, a putting green and you can hone your skills at the Faldo Golf Institute.

To make the most of the location, you can also stay at Melbourne Lodge – in what used to be the stables – and eat at the Michelin-starred Auberge du Lac restaurant, which overlooks the lake.

The Auberge Experience costs £285, with a round of golf, a night in the Lodge and a meal at Auberge du Lac.

FOXHILLS CLUB & RESORT, OTTERSHAW, SURREY
A 440-acre site in mature woodland near Windsor, the course is named after the famous pro Bernard Hunt winner of 30 titles on the PGA European Tour and who played in 10 Ryder Cup matches. At 6,883 yards, the course is ideal for big-hitters. For those wanting to work on their short game, there’s also a 27-par, nine-hole course that has hosted the PGA Junior Championships.

At the moment, they are charging £65 for a bacon roll, a round of golf and lunch; alternatively dinner, bed and breakfast and two rounds of golf start at 115 per person, through www.yourgolftravel.com.

LUTON HOO HOTEL, GOLF & SPA
With its 1,000-acre grounds and gardens by famous English landscaper Capability Brown, Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire is a looker. No wonder it has played host to the likes of Winston Churchill and the Queen. These days, it’s open to commoners, and those with a good selection of woods will especially enjoy the 7,107 yard, par 73 course.

The mansion itself was built in the 18th-century and has a range of rooms in various wings, all in a classic country house style. Dinner, bed and breakfast and two rounds of golf from £129 per person through www.yourgolftravel.com. www.lutonhoo.co.uk
