Ogilvy has appointed Piyush Pandey as its new chief creative officer following the dismissal of Tham Khai Meng over misconduct allegations.

Pandey is currently the advertising agency’s chairman in India and has served at the company for over 30 years. He will retain his current duties in Mumbai and take over the new role on 1 January 2019.

The appointment comes after the WPP-owned firm fired Tham Khai Meng in July for unspecified misconduct.

Ogilvy chief executive John Seifert said: “We could not be more thrilled that Piyush will be serving as our chief creative officer and my creative partner.

“Piyush is the perfect leader to shepherd that legacy as we continue to focus on making brands matter as the leading creative network in the world.”

Ogilvy also named Leslie Sims as its new chief creative officer for the US. Sims served as chief operating officer at Y&R prior to its merger with VML.

The company positioned the appointments as the latest move in a drive to improve diversity within its creative ranks.

At last year’s Cannes Lions festival the firm committed to recruiting 20 women to senior creative roles globally by 2020.
