Ever had a near-miss on the streets of the capital after a driver failed to spot you because they were texting? Read on – for the Met Police has just seized a £180,000 Lamborghini because its owner was spotted using a mobile phone when driving. Sweet revenge…

In a statement today the Metropolitan Police said the 42-year-old owner of the white Lamborghini Huracan (RRP: £180,000) had been spotted committing a series of road violations while he was driving along Queens Road in NW4, including driving while using a mobile phone.

When they stopped the 42-year old driver of the right-hand-drive supercar, which sports a German numberplate, he was unable to produce a driving licence or any insurance documents (although he said his driving licence was in Germany).

The driver was reported for the offences of driving while using a mobile phone, driving not in accordance with a licence and driving with no insurance. He'll either me summonsed or receive a fixed penalty notice and up to 12 points on his licence.

"The Roads and Transport Policing Command is leading the Met's response to the NPCC's national week of action against those who use mobile phones whilst driving," said detective chief superintendent Paul Rickett, of the roads and transport policing command.

"Throughout the week of action, there will be up to 600 officers each day focussed on motorists who unlawfully use hand-held mobile devices whilst driving and who pose a very real danger to themselves, other drivers and pedestrians."
