“Farewell to soggy bottoms”: Mary Berry won’t be moving to Channel 4 with Great British Bake Off – but Paul Hollywood will
Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry has stepped down from the programme – but fellow judge Paul Hollywood has announced he will stay on after the show was bought by Channel 4.
Berry said today she will stay with the BBC out of "loyalty", adding that it had been a "privilege and an honour" to spend seven years working on the show.
But Hollywood said he will stay on for another three years.
“I am delighted that I will be continuing as a judge when Bake Off moves to Channel 4," he said.
Earlier this month it emerged Bake Off – GBBO to its fans – was set to move to Channel 4 after the company behind the show, Love Productions, was unable to reach a deal with the BBC.
While presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins said the following day they were staying with the BBC, judges Berry and Hollywood have remained tight-lipped about their plans.
Until now. In a statement today, Berry said:
My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.
I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it.
