MUCH-TRAVELLED former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has revealed that his appointment as Leicester manager yesterday ends a decade-long desire to return to the Premier League.

The Italian, 63, has signed a three-year contract at the King Power Stadium and replaces Nigel Pearson, who was sacked in June despite keeping the Foxes in the top flight last term, with the board citing “fundamental differences in perspective”.

Ranieri has had a nomadic managerial career, with this his 16th appointment, having had spells at Parma, Juventus, Roma, Inter, Monaco and Greece since his four-year spell at Chelsea was brought to end by owner Roman Abramovich in 2004.

“I’m so glad to be here at a club with such a great tradition as Leicester City,” said Ranieri.

“I have worked at many great clubs, in many top leagues, but since I left Chelsea I have dreamt of another chance to work in the best league in the world.”
