Nigel Farage is the first UK politician to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at his New York base Trump Towers.

The acting leader of Ukip and several others close to the MEP met with Trump less than a week after the businessman was elected as the next President of the US in a surprise result to the election.

The meeting took place amid speculation that Farage is being  lined up for a role within the Trump camp.

Farage spent more than an hour speaking with Trump covering topics that included Brexit and the bust of Sir Winston Churchill.

"It was a great honour to spend time with Donald Trump," said Farage, expressing confidence in the UK-US relationship.

"He was relaxed, and full of good ideas. I'm confident he will be a good President. His support for the U.S.-UK relationship is very strong. This is a man with whom we can do business".

He added: "I was especially pleased at his very positive reaction to the idea that Sir Winston Churchill's bust should be put back in the Oval Office."

Also at the meeting was Arron Banks, a major Ukip donor and Leave campaigner, and Rahemm Kassam, a former aide to Farage who last month withdrew from the Ukip leadership race.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has been invited to meet with Trump "as soon as possible" after speaking to each other in a telephone call last week. However, there have been suggestions that the President-elect snubbed her, calling nine other world leaders before her.
