New guidelines released to counter soaring cash delivery vehicle robberies
AN EXPECTED surge in attacks on cash delivery vehicles has prompted the British Retail Consortium (BRC) to publish fresh security guidelines today.
The end of the year is regarded as a peak season for attacks, with most occuring in the final quarter of 2008.
The first 10 months of 2009 have already seen 15 per cent more attacks than previously, that could mean over 350 attacks in November and December alone.
The BRC has put together a CVIT (cash and valuables in transit) Working Group to publish best practice guidelines to help retailers safeguard their cash against robbers.
The guidelines to be published by the BRC include a 26-point checklist of security measures for companies to follow, covering their working environment, policies and procedures, parking, security dye and co-operation within the sector.
Each day an estimated £2bn of cash and valuables is transported around the UK.
