New Greek negotiator Euclid Tsakalotos heads to Brussels for bailout discussions

Greek officials will meet with representatives of its creditors in Brussels today, as the country rushes to avoid bankruptcy.

The Greek delegation will be led by Oxford-educated Euclid Tsakalotos, City PM understands.

He has usurped finance minister Yanis Varoufakis as Greece’s main negotiator, after a meeting between Varoufakis and Eurozone finance ministers last week turned sour.

Varoufakis will still attend the next meeting of Eurozone finance ministers on 11 May, but he will be accompanied by Tsakalotos.

Greece must agree on a list of reforms with the Eurozone, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund, in return for an extra slice of bailout cash, or it runs the risk of default.
