G4S’s CHIEF executive was paid £1.46m last year, including a £648,000 bonus, as the board praised Ashley Almanza’s efforts to turn around the troubled outsourcing firm since Nick Buckles’ departure last May.

Almanza joined G4S last April and took on the chief executive role in June, amid a high-profile fraud scandal relating to an electronic prisoner tagging contract.

Buckles, who stepped down last May, received £514,261 for his time in the role last year, which did not include a bonus.

“[Almanza] assumed the role of chief executive in a time of great uncertainty,” the company said in its annual report, adding that the board was “highly satisfied with the rate and pace of progress” in his efforts to address the issues leading to last May’s profit warning.

G4S has implemented a corporate overhaul plan that was welcomed by the government last week.
