Network Rail offers to wrap commuters’ Christmas presents at London stations
Network Rail is offering a free gift wrapping service to commuters at London train stations this Christmas.
The service, which Network Rail has dubbed “Wrapland”, is available from a pop-up stall at London Bridge until tomorrow and then at King's Cross from 17 to 19 December.
The stall has been set up to encourage commuters to purchase presents from shops in Network Rail's managed stations.
Commuters can also give donations to children's charity Barnardo’s.
Earlier this month a dedicated team of elves was offering assistance to shoppers at Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street stations.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Wrapland is just one example of how we use the space in our stations to host innovative events and create experiences that surprise and delight station users.
“We also are proud to be supporting our charity partner Barnardo’s alongside the event, highlighting how stations can act as a hub for a host of schemes which deliver positive benefits to the communities they serve.”
While inflation and online shopping have cast a shadow over UK high streets in recent years, Network Rail has continued to invest in expanding its shopping centres.
It reported a total sales growth of 3.5 per cent in station retailers during last year's Christmas quarter, more than three times the average for the wider retail industry.
