Netflix has revealed its “binge scale” – how do you watch these top shows?

Are you a House of Cards fanatic, watching it all in one go? Or do you like to build up the anticipation with a weekly watch?

Most people watch the Netflix hit show by savouring it over time, but when it comes to something like tense drama The Fall or Dexter, we just can't help but stay glued to the screen.

That's according to the so-called binge scale, created by Netflix after analysing the viewing habits of millions of hours of watching around the world.

We're watching two hours a day on average to get through the latest season of our favourite shows, on average. Using that as a benchmark, boffins at the streaming service identified the shows across a scale – from shows we savour, to shows we devour.

With that, comes one simple chart (below) that reveals our Netflix watching habits, an appetite for Thrillers (Breaking Bad anyone) and Horrors (Think The Walking Dead and American Horror Story) that keeps us on the edge of our seat.

Middle of the road is the likes of Orange is The New Black and Better Call Saul, while it's the comedies – Arrested Development and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for example, which we come back to over a longer period of time rather than all at once.

“As the binge scale indicates, the viewing experience of a series can range from the emotional to the thought-provoking,” said Netflix's Cindy Holland, vice president of content.
