Netflix to debut in Italy and Portugal in October

Netflix is to take to the stage in Italy and Portugal this October, to add to the more than 50 countries where it is already available.

In an announcement this Saturday in California Netflix made the big reveal, just days after it announced the service would soon be available in Spain.

In March, the company announced its worldwide user base had hit 62m people, and it plans to make its service available globally by the end of 2016. Some wrangling may be necessary to get the service running in countries such as China, however.

The bulk of Netflix’s customers are in the US, with 42m of the 62m subscribers watching from there. Back in September last year, the last period for which there is readily available data, this was the breakdown:
