Murray in race to be fit for season’s finale in London
BRITISH No1 Andy Murray faces a race to be fit in time for the ATP World Tour finals at London’s O2 Arena later this month after he was forced to pull out of the Swiss Indoors because of a right gluteal muscle strain.
Murray (right), who has won fifteen consecutive matches since his US Open semi-final defeat at the hands of Rafael Nadal, withdrew shortly before his first-round match against Dutchman Robin Haase was due to start.
Murray, who won three titles in Asia last month, had requested a wildcard to play in an event featuring Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
World No3 Murray had chosen to play in Basle over Valencia, where he was champion two years ago, and was also set to play in the doubles with his brother Jamie.
The 24-year-old, who has been replaced in the draw by Marco Chiudinelli, will hope to have recovered by the time the season-ending tournament in London begins on 20 November.
