Murray battles past breakfast – and Roddick – to continue march
BRITISH No1 Andy Murray admitted struggling to down his fish and pasta breakfast after sweeping past Andy Roddick at the Paris Masters yesterday.
Murray despatched the former world No1 6-2, 6-2 in just 61 minutes to record his 18th consecutive win and keep up his bid for a fourth straight ATP Tour title.
But victory came at a price, with the Scot confessing the unusually early 9:30am start had made it difficult to eat his protein and carbohydrate-heavy pre-match meal.
“The hardest thing is that 45 minutes to an hour before going on court I have to get pasta and fish down – and fish at that time of the morning isn’t great,” said world No3 Murray. “That’s why tennis is a bit challenging because you never know when you could play.”
Murray made light of a visit from the doctor during the first set to check on a tight hamstring and insisted he was not carrying an injury, despite pulling out last week’s tournament in Basel.
He will meet Tomas Berdych today in round four, after he beat Janko Tipsarevic – a result which also confirmed his place at the ATP World Tour Finals in London this month.
