Murray and Robson edge Great Britain closer to Hopman final

BRITAIN’S Andy Murray insists he will have enough practice before the Australian Open despite speeding to another victory in the Hopman Cup yesterday.

Murray and 15-year-old Laura Robson took a step closer to the final as Great Britain beat Germany 2-1 in the group stage in Perth.

The Scot needed just 57 minutes to win his singles rubber against Philipp Kohlschreiber – his second quickfire win of the tournament.

Having not played a match in five weeks due to the Christmas break, the world No4 needs court time ahead of the year’s first Grand Slam later this month.

But he said: “It’s just spending time on court that you want. If the games go longer that’s a good thing, but because we go straight out to play the mixed [doubles] today I probably had two and half hours on the court in total. It is enough. I don’t want to play loads.”

As in Monday’s win over Kazakhstan, Robson again lost her singles match, but pushed world No22 Sabine Lisicki hard in the 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 defeat. Britain face Russia tomorrow for a place in the final.
