BRITISH skip David Murdoch knows his rink have been handed a lifeline to reach the curling semi-finals and has vowed not to waste it in today’s tiebreaker with Norway.

Team GB suffered a 6-5 defeat to China in their final round robin match in Sochi yesterday, but a surprise 5-3 loss for Norway against Denmark means the pair will now meet for the right to play Sweden in the last four tomorrow.

Murdoch said: “We’re not out, we’re not downbeat, we’re still in this. It’s bittersweet because we’ve wanted to get across that finish line for a while now and we’ve just not managed it.”

Eve Muirhead’s rink meet Canada in tomorrow’s semi-final, despite an 8-7 defeat to Denmark following a 9-6 win against Russia.

Figure skaters Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland finished a respectable 10th, following the free dance.

Two-man bobsleigh team, Lamin Deen and John Baines, missed out on a top-20 finish and a place in yesterday’s final heat, placing 23rd after the third run.

Halfpipe skier Rowan Cheshire, 18, was released from hospital after suffering concussion in training, but it is still undecided whether she will compete on Thursday.
