Monday misery for commuters as Piccadilly Line delays continue and District Line is hit by signal failure disruption
Commuters are facing continued delays on the Piccadilly Line today, as half its fleet of trains remain out of service.
Transport for London warned people to allow longer for their journeys, with a reduced service running between Cockfosters and Heathrow. A train shuttle service is operating between Acton Town and Rayners Lane in West London.
TfL revealed on Friday that around half of the Piccadilly Line fleet has been taken out of service for repair work, leading to a shortage of trains and therefore delays across the line, and blamed poor weather conditions for leaving train wheels in bad nick.
Tony Matthews, general manager for the Piccadilly Line, said: "We're working around the clock to fix the trains so that we can return to a good service as quickly as possible."
The disruption comes just weeks before Night Tube services are due to launch on the Piccadilly Line, with the start date set for 16 December.
Piccadilly Line workers are also preparing to strike next week. RMT members who work on the Piccadilly and Hammersmith and City Lines will walk out for 24 hours on Tuesday 6 December in a dispute over working conditions.
Meanwhile, commuters using the District Line are facing severe delays between Earl's Court and Barking due to an earlier signal failure at Tower Hill.
