McDonald’s maps out post-Covid expansion in UK and Ireland
McDonald’s has announced a major post-Covid expansion in the UK and Ireland, with the fast food chain set to open 50 new restaurants and create 20,000 new jobs.
The fast food giant is also planning to introduce “Grab & Go options in areas with a high worker population and improved click and collect facilities”.
There will also be plans to trial to create “more flexible” restaurant layouts to adapt to modern footfall patterns.
McDonald’s said the extension is a part of a wider plan to ensure its restaurants “are fit for the future, and the experience meets the latest customer preferences and expectations”.
Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s chief executive in UK and Ireland said: “There is no doubt the pandemic has had a huge impact on many people’s employment opportunities and threatened the future of high streets up and down the country.
“Our 1,400 restaurants are run by 200 local franchisees which means we have a personal stake in every one of our communities. It’s a big responsibility, and the moves we’ve announced today reflect our commitment to continue to innovate and invest in the local communities and economies we serve.”
