After a succesful outing two weeks ago, MasterCard is bringing its Fare Free Friday back for another day.

Londoners will be able to travel for free on the Tube, train, tram, bus and DLR this Friday (November 28) if they swipe their MasterCard on the transport network's contactless system instead of an OysterCard.

Users automatically pick up their refund as they tap in, and could save up to £21.80 in total.

Fare Free Friday also extends to the Cash on Tap app, from mobile network EE, for MasterCard holders.

London’s entire travel network began accepting bank cards from a number of card issuers in September after first being accepted on the capital’s buses last year, a move that was supported by MasterCard.

Already contactless payment makes up 6.8 per cent of all pay as you go journeys, 7.8 per cent for bus and tram and six per cent for rail.

Scott Abrahams, MasterCard's group head of acceptance and emerging payments, said: “Like TfL, we believe in contactless payments for the London visitor and commuter. Indeed contactless payments have risen by 352% over the last year in the UK and more locally, the significant take up of contactless since TfL’s launch gives us a reason to celebrate.”
