MANCHESTER CITY manager Roberto Mancini hailed striker Sergio Aguero after the £38m summer signing crowned a spectacular debut with two goals in a 4-0 rout of top-flight newcomers Swansea.

Edin Dzeko netted first but Aguero opened the floodgates and set up David Silva for the third before capping a dazzling half-hour cameo with a thunderous 30-yard strike in stoppage time.

Yet Mancini insists Aguero is not yet at his best following a gruelling summer of international duty.

“I think he needs to recover as he only finished the Copa America three weeks ago. He needs another two to three weeks to be 100 per cent, maybe,” said Mancini. “For me he’s a fantastic striker, young, and he’s going to be a fantastic player for us.”

An emphatic win propelled City to joint top of the Premier League after their opening fixture, while they have already stolen a march on rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, who all drew. “I am delighted with this performance,” Mancini added. “In the first half Swansea played very well. We had some problems, then we pressed them and had some chances and in the end I am very happy.”
