Manchester airport train station has been evacuated after police officers have carried out a controlled explosion after a suspicious package was found.

A man was detained by police at the scene.

Trams, train and buses have been suspended to and from the airport, Greater Manchester Police said.

It said a cordon would remain in place while it continues to investigate the incident.

Bomb disposal officers are at #ManchesterAirport transport interchange to assist GMP with enquiries.

As part of their assessment to ensure the package is safe, a controlled explosion took place.

The cordon will remain in place as a precautionary measure as enquiries continue.
