A 21-year-old man has been charged with two counts of trespass after climbing over a gate a Buckingham Palace yesterday afternoon.

Daniel Sheehan, who has no fixed abode, was charged today for his attempt to scale the boundaries of the royal residence just before 1.45pm, but was met by officers and arrested "as he dropped to the ground", Scotland Yard said..

Sheehan, who was not found to have any weapons on his possession, will appear in custody on Monday at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The Queen was not at Buckingham Palace when the incident occurred.

It is the fifth security alert in the last five months. In May, a 41-year-old man was arrested in the royal grounds after scaling an outside perimeter wall, while last November police entered a standoff with men on the palace's rooftop.
