The financial services sector is helping to drive a boom for professional recruitment firms, which now have eight per cent more vacancies on their books compared to last year.

According to data from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), permanent vacancies across finance and accounting, IT and media and marketing are all up year-on-year, 16 per cent, five per cent, and one per cent respectively.

The positive sentiment chimes with reports that investment in the UK rose 2.9 per cent in the second quarter.

Ann Swain, chief executive of APSCo, said: “With the latest estimates from the ONS predicting that the UK economy has grown 13.4 per cent since 2009, there is now no denying that the outlook is good for UK plc. It is unsurprising that employment is climbing.”
