UK economics will be in the sspotlight this week, with the rrelease of the Bank of England inflation report, UK Trade Balance, the Producer Price Index and BRC Retail Sales Monitor.

Results are expected today from Catlin Group, Morgan Sindall and Telecity Group, while in the US Chesapeake Energy is set to reveal figures.

EasyJet is also due to reveal its monthly traffic statistics.

Tomorrow’s news includes reports on manufacturing and industrial production.

FTSE 100 firm Xstrata is also due to give its first half figures, with analysts expecting a slump because of weakening commodity prices.

Wednesday’s highlight will be the Bank of England’s August Inflation Report and press conference. The Bank will update its quarterly forecasts for growth and inflation, with economists predicting both will be downgraded because of the continued Eurozone debt programme and UK’s domestic woes.

UL-listed firms Aquarius Platinum, AstraZeneca, BP, Quintain Estates, Rio Tinto, Royal Dutch Shell and Standard Life will all report.

On Thursday the trade balance for both the UK and US will be revealed. UK results are expected to show the goods deficit widened in June to £8.6bn after narrowing slightly in May to £8.4bn.

Corporate reports in the UK include Amec, Astra Zeneca, Bumi, Caledonia Investments, Enterprise Inns, Grainger, Hill & Smith Holdings, Randgold Resources, Royal Dutch Shell and Tui Travel.

On Friday the UK’s producer price index will be released, along with reports from SVG Capital and Asian-focused Prudential, with chief executive Tidjane Thiam predicted to comment on reports it is looking to expand into operations outside of Asia, the US and the UK.
