London police consider using eagles to take down rogue drones

The Metropolitan Police could use eagles to take down rogue drones over the capital, it's been revealed.

Inspired by police in the Netherlands who have been using the birds of prey to take down drones which are a security threat, Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan Howe has asked that the same method of tackling the problem be looked at in the UK, The Times reports.

Dutch police said last week that the birds were able to take out drones in a safe way.

A Met spokesperson told the newspaper: "As would be expected in an organisation that is transforming, we take an interest in all innovative ideas and will of course be looking at the use of eagles by the Dutch police.”

The company behind the concept, Guard From Above, says it's a low tech solution for a high tech problem. However, some have criticised the use of once endangered birds for a potentially dangerous job.
