London dominates the UK’s startup scene, new analysis from LinkedIn shows.

All but one of the country’s 25 top startups are based in the capital, the social media site found.

The analysis uses searches and company page views from LinkedIn’s half a billion users, over 25m of which are in the UK, and shows the startups where British professionals most want to work.

Monzo is top of the list which includes five other banks. The challenger has seen a 447 per cent surge in hiring over the past two years, and currently employs 344 people. This week it hit the million customer milestone, and its users have spent £4bn through app-based accounts.

Fintech startups Revolut and ClearBank are also in the top five, increasing hiring by 550 per cent and 277 per cent respectively.

Other names on the list include sportswear manufacturer Gymshark which came second, Skinnydip London, which sells phone cases and bags, and sports streaming service DAZN.

LinkedIn’s survey shows that the top 25 companies have added over 2,170 jobs in the last year, and expect to add a further 2,700 or more in the coming 12 months.

LinkedIn’s UK news editor Orlando Crowcroft said: “At a time of economic and political uncertainty, these 25 companies are putting innovation and invention at the forefront of what they do. Our data tells us that these startups are not only seeing incredible growth, but are the places where LinkedIn members want to work. It is easy to see why.”

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: “London is home to a wealth of talent and creativity so it’s no surprise that the capital dominates the LinkedIn Top Startups list in the UK.

“Despite the difficulties and uncertainty posed by Brexit, we need to continue to support these businesses to thrive whilst creating an economy which lets all Londoners share in the capital’s prosperity. I look forward to seeing these companies go from strength to strength – and to seeing how they continue to contribute to London’s business success story – in the years to come.”
