Liverpool Street Station reopens fire alert, which had affected Central, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City Lines

London's Liverpool Street station has been reopened after a fire alert.

The station had been evacuated at around 7:30am and was shut for around half an hour. A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said no fire crews had been called to the scene.

The Central Line, Circle Line, Metropolitan Line and the Hammersmith & City Line were prevented from stopping at the London station while authorities investigated the matter.

It did not affect the mainline station.

This is the second time a station has been closed for a fire alert in less than a day. Yesterday afternoon Westminster Station was shut briefly, although it later turned out to be a false alarm.

And earlier in the week, South Kensington was shut after a suspicious package was discovered, though this also turned out to be a false alarm.

Last night, Wimbledon was evacuated over a fire alert on what was the hottest day of the year so far. The Met Office recorded temperatures as high as 36.7* at Heathrow, which was under the spotlight for a very different reason.
