Liverpool 4, Stoke City 1

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted his surprise after an experimental Reds side revived their hopes of European qualification with a four-goal Premier League defeat of Stoke.

Substitute Divock Origi netted twice after full-back Alberto Moreno and striker Daniel Sturridge had scored for the hosts. Forward Bojan Krkic briefly dragged the visitors level.

“For a team that has never played together, it was brilliant,” said Klopp. “I thought we would have more problems. I thought it was a formation that could win, but not like this.”

Klopp made seven changes to the team that held his former club Borussia Dortmund to a 1-1 draw in Germany less than 72 hours earlier.

Victory lifted Liverpool above Stoke to eighth in the table, two points behind Southampton but with two games in hand.
