Leicester marksman Jamie Vardy ready to fight prospect of two-game suspension

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is ready to fight the prospect of an additional one-match suspension despite accepting a Football Association charge of misconduct yesterday.

England forward Vardy has requested a personal hearing in order to plead his case against further punishment following an angry outburst at referee Jonathan Moss after his dismissal against West Ham on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, who was last sent off in 2011 while playing for Fleetwood, will definitely miss Sunday’s clash with Swansea after receiving a second yellow card last week for diving. Any further sanction could see him miss next weekend’s trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

That would mean league leaders Leicester playing half of their remaining games without their 22-goal top scorer and could potentially have a significant impact upon the club’s surge towards a maiden top-flight title.

“Jamie Vardy has accepted a charge of improper conduct arising from the [West Ham] fixture. Jamie has, however, requested a personal hearing. We await the outcome of the FA’s disciplinary process,” read a Leicester statement.

Chelsea marksman Diego Costa was given an additional one-match ban last month, as well as being fined £20,000, after he was charged for his reaction to a red card against Everton in the FA Cup.

Leicester, who have also accepted a charge of failing to control their players against the Hammers, saw their lead at the summit cut to five points after scraping a 2-2 against West Ham and then seeing a ruthless Tottenham comfortably dispatch Stoke 4-0.
