UK bookmakers will have to pay out £15m if Leicester City are crowned the winners of the Premier League tonight, of which £10m will be in losses, according to William Hill.

If Tottenham fail to defeat Chelsea tonight, Leicester City will secure their first top-flight title.

Both Ladbrokes and William Hill have said they will be paying out £3m in the event of a Leicester City victory.

If they do indeed win, William Hill will make a £2.2m loss on the English Premier League this year, 10 times more than the previous worst result.

According to Ladbrokes, 47 people placed bets of 5,000/1 on Leicester City winning at the start of the season – of which 25 cashed out early.

William Hill took just 25 bets at 5,000/1 odds, 12 of which were online and 13 of which were in store. The biggest individual winner could be a customer from Guildford in Surrey, who placed £75 on Leicester City at 1,500/1, and will win £112,500 on the back of Leicester City's victory.

"It would be our biggest ever title payout, but Leicester have upset the odds to get to the top week in week out and in particular during the first half of the season, before the penny dropped as to their title credentials, we made money as they took down accumulator bets on the big teams," Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said.

"The entire Leicester story has to be a positive for the betting industry. We are sure that turnover on less-fancied teams will increase by up to 50 times next season as well."
