Labour’s Emily Thornberry just accused Sky News of sexism after struggling to name foreign leaders on live TV

Labour's shadow foreign minister Emily Thornberry has accused a Sky News presenter of sexism after being unable to name either the French foreign minister, or the South Korean president.

Thornberry was being interviewed on Sky News' Murnaghan programme earlier this morning, but objected to “pub-quizzing” from host Dermot Murnaghan, who asked her to name the French foreign minister.

Murnaghan's question came after the Islington South MP revealed she had yet to meet Jean-Marc Ayrault, and saw the Labour cabinet member question whether the broadcaster would ask the same question of Brexit secretary David Davis or foreign secretary Boris Johnson.

In an excruciating interview, Thornberry then attempted to change the topic to North Korea, only to be asked either the name, or the gender, or South Korea's President.

And after moving on to questions of anti-Semitism within Labour, Thornberry issued a stinging rebuke to Murnaghan, claiming the veteran journalist was displaying discrimination of his own.

"When it comes to sexism some Sky presenters need to look at themselves too," she said.

"I have a lot to say to you but I don't think a lot of it can be broadcast."
