Koenigsegg’s One:1 “megacar” has broken the world record for car sprinting

A Swedish "megacar" has smashed the record for acceleration and deceleration, making it the fastest sprinting car in the world.

Koenigsegg's One:1 managed to go from stationary to 300km/h in just 17.95 seconds during a test run in Angelholm, Sweden. This is 3.24 seconds faster than the current record set by the Koenigsegg Agera R in 2011.

Koenigsegg calls it a megacar not just because of its ground-breaking ability to speed up, but also because it produces one megawatt in power, which is equivalent to 1,340 horsepower. By comparison, the Hennessey Venom GT supercar has a horsepower of 1,244.

During the test, driver Robert Serwanski even took his hands off the wheel before putting the brakes on. You can watch the test drive here:

Next stop for the One:1 will be the Nürburgring in Germany, where it will attempt a production lap record in front of representatives from the Guinness Book of Records.
