The youth of today: obsessed with their smartphones, avocado toast and… starting successful businesses, apparently.

The UK’s first festival for entrepreneurs under 14 years old will take place next weekend, celebrating some of the nation’s youngest wheelers and dealers.

KidZania London, which takes place at Westfield Shepherd’s Bush next Saturday, 11 November, was “designed to champion kids in the real world and teach kids the skills they need to set up their own businesses and make their dreams a reality”, according to the organisers.

Speakers will include nine-year-old Callum Daniel, chief executive of iCodeRobots, the tech firm he founded when his parents couldn’t find a robotics course for him, and Henry Patterson, founder of Young & Mighty, an online service to provider young people with information about jobs and fundraising ideas.

The only slightly older Alex Brownsell will also be speaking. Brownsell, 28, co-founded cult hair salon Bleach in 2010, and counts stars such as Alexa Chung and Florence Welch among her clients.

“We are thrilled to be launching our first KidPreneur festival which aims to encourage children to think creatively and learn vital life and business skills. We hope the event will be a fun and entertaining way for children to be inspired about their future careers,” said KidZania chief executive Eddie Kemsley.
