JEANS ARE FIT FOR THE RITZ SO SPLASH OUT

JEANS are cool – just ask the Ritz, which recently relaxed its dress code to allow denim into its dining room. But buying jeans is a minefield. There are so many choices – boyfriend, skinny, tapered or bootleg, distress factor, stretch, price. What happened to plain Levi’s 501s?

One of my best pairs of jeans is by Ernest Sewn. They’re lightweight denim so great for summer as well as winter, have a perfect rise and a slight bootleg (which is flattering for regular tops and jackets), and look as good with trainers as they do with heels. And they’re comfy. Splashing out £200 on jeans hurts a bit, but if they fit and feel as good as these, it’s worth it. One of the best places is Donna Ida, (www.donnaida.com) which has them all, you just need to be prepared to try on loads and decide which not only look good, but feel just right. And don’t forget to try sitting down in them.

For more affordable options, I’m impressed with the shape, fit and variety of Uniqlo jeans. The rise (you have a choice) is not too low, there are different leg styles and guess what – they’ll even shorten them for you free in a day – all for under £20.
