2014 City PM awards: It’s always good to toast the best of the City – Editor’s Letter

In a matter of weeks, during the first few days of January, I will be calling people to invite them to next year’s City PM awards. The event, the latest of which was held last night, has become a fixture in the City calendar and has grown in stature since its inception.

Last night, around 500 people gathered at the Grange Hotel near St Paul’s for the latest ceremony, which celebrates people and companies that have done great things during the year in business and finance.

This year there was stiff competition, as ever, for the accolades, with readers able to make nominations via our increasingly talked about web-site, citypm.eu.

The winners come from a broad mix of the business community; there’s the discount retailer Aldi, which wins the business of the year award; Nigel Wilson of Legal & General, scoops the personality of the year award (there’s an interview of him by my colleague Tom Welsh on page 6); and Uber, the taxi app firm, wins innovative company of the year, to name but three.

The event would not have been possible without the sponsorship of Lexus, the luxury car company, and all our other sponsors, or without the support of the judges or those people I contact every January. The positive response from my ring-round from companies such as PwC, EY, Prudential, FTI, Powerscourt, Finsbury, Liberum, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Citigate, KPMG, BAML, Cenkos, Maitland, Brunswick, Stockwell, Dow Jones, Alliance Trust and others, to back this event even before they know whether they’re being considered for awards, makes it the surefire success it has become. Thank you.
