Inmarsat’s new rocket I-5 F3 launches on 28 August 2015
Inmarsat has scheduled the launch of the third satellite of its Global Xpress array, after a delay in May caused the satellite telecommunications company to reduce its revenue and earnings forecast for the year.
The Inmarsat-5 F3 is scheduled for launch at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 28 August 2015.
The final satellite completes a globally accessible broadband network to provide governments and businesses with high-speed internet connections from anywhere on the globe.
The previous launch was delayed when a Proton Breeze M rocket malfunctioned while carrying a Mexican satellite into space.
The rocket was of the same model as the one scheduled to deliver the I5 F3, and the launch was postponed so that an investigation into the malfunction could be carried out.
Chief executive Rupert Pearce said: “The completion of the Global Xpress constellation will be a significant milestone for our organisation and is fundamental to the delivery of a new era in mobile satellite communications which will change the future for us all.”
Inmarsat shares closed up 0.16 per cent at 990p yesterday.
