I’m sure West Ham will keep faith with me, says Allardyce

UNDER-FIRE West Ham manager Sam Allardyce believes his job is safe despite an alarming dip in form that has pushed them to the brink of the relegation zone.

Four defeats from their last five Premier League games mean the Hammers are just goal difference above 19th place, while all the teams below them have reacted to dismal seasons by changing bosses.

But Allardyce is confident he retains the faith of the board as he prepares for tomorrow’s crunch clash with bottom club Sunderland and is not expecting to be summoned for crisis talks.

“I wouldn’t have thought I’d need any discussions with the owners, they’re either going to stick with me or they’re not,” he said yesterday.

“Everyone will speculate about my position because I’m around where all the other clubs are and all the other clubs have got rid of their managers so they all perceive that I’m the next in line.

“I can only say when I look at their history that they’ve always shown a level of patience to try and overcome a difficult situation. I hope this will be the same and I’m sure it will.”

West Ham, who finished 10th last term, have won just three league games all season, against Fulham, Tottenham and Cardiff.

Allardyce, who took them back into the top flight in 2011-12, added: “It’s the first time in two and a half years that we’ve had a bad run.”
