Leicester's title celebrations were dampened slightly on Tuesday when defender Robert Huth was charged with violent conduct – a decision that could see him miss the rest of the season.

Huth was charged by the Football Association for pulling the hair of Marouane Fellaini, while the Manchester United midfielder has also been charged with violent conduct for swinging an elbow in retaliation during Sunday’s 1-1 draw. Both men have until 6pm to respond.

If found guilty, centre-back Huth is likely to be banned for three games, so would sit out Leicester’s final home game – against Everton on Saturday, when they will be presented with the Premier League trophy – and the final-day trip to Stamford Bridge.

United have three league games left so Fellaini stands to miss the fixtures against Norwich, West Ham and Bournemouth but would be free for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace on 21 May.

Outspoken United manager Louis van Gaal defended Fellaini in a bizarre post-match interview, saying that Huth’s actions were only appropriate in “sex masochism”.

The FA is expected to decide on Wednesday whether to bring charges in relation to Monday’s bad-tempered 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham which effectively handed the title to Leicester.

Spurs had a Premier League record nine players booked, while midfielder Mousa Dembele was accused of scratching Diego Costa in the face and winger Erik Lamela appeared to stand on the hand of Cesc Fabregas.

Blues midfielder Fabregas, meanwhile, is alleged to have been involved in scuffles at the final whistle that spilled into the tunnel.
