British oil and gas explorer Hurricane Energy revealed yesterday that production from one of its projects off the Shetland Islands could be around double previous expectations following testing.

The Aim-listed oil and gas explorer updated its estimates following test drilling on its Lancaster oil project to the west of the Shetlands.

Hurricane revealed that it could have the potential to offer up to 20,000 barrels per day from a single well, “significantly ahead of initial expectations” of well production.

Robert Trice, group chief executive, said: “The key metrics related to oil productivity are even better than expected providing us with further encouragement regarding the productive potential of Lancaster and our other basement assets.”
