Hughton reads the riot act as Toon crash
FURIOUS Newcastle boss Chris Hughton admitted to “venting some anger” in the direction of his makeshift defence following a comprehensive 3-1 Premier Leauge defeat at West Brom.
Somen Tchoyi gave the home side the lead after 32 minutes and Peter Odemwingie’s second-half brace secured the three points.
Hughton kept his players, including Sol Campbell and Steven Taylor, who were deputising for suspended duo Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini, in the dressing room for over an hour after witnessing a second heavy away defeat in a row.
“After most games there tends to be an inquest into the game,” said Hughton. “Some of it is about getting answers, some of it is about venting your anger. We’ve given away poor goals and you can’t do that.”
Tchoyi opened the scoring with a curling effort having been given too much space. Odemwingie (left) then doubled the lead when he took advantage of a Danny Guthrie slip and more dithering from the centre backs, before beating the offside trap to wrap up the win.
