Hughes hopes solution to league form lies in cup run
QPR manager Mark Hughes insists a prolonged run in the FA Cup can act as a springboard to Premier League safety ahead of tonight’s third round replay against MK Dons.
Rangers are back in action just 48 hours after Hughes presided over the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle, his first game at the helm, which left the west London side in the relegation zone.
Hughes will rotate his squad as much as possible for the visit of League One outfit MK Dons, but injuries dictate that changes will be kept to a minimum as the former Fulham boss attempts to end a nine-match winless sequence.
“I need to use players who haven’t had much of an influence. So that gives me another opportunity to understand what I have got,” he said.
“In terms of cup competitions, I have always taken the view that a good cup run can help league form.
“If we can progress in the competition, the opportunity to progress further will help our confidence and the fact that we are winning games, maybe, in cup competitions will help us in the league.”
