You could now live in the house with the “finest view in England”

The best view in England could soon be yours, now that a 2 grade II listed Georgian manor house is being leased out in Oxfordshire.

Woodstock House is directly adjacent to Blenheim Palace, and therefore gets to share the views of its 2,000 acres of parkland.

Designed by landscape architect Sir John Vanburgh in the 18th century, the grounds are a Unesco World Heritage Site and also happened to be the birthplace of Winston Churchill. It was the former leader's mother, Lady Randolph Churchill, who described the view from Woodstock House as the “finest in England”.

Three storeys in height, the house has a grand hall, four reception rooms, eight bedroom suites and a kitchen. Its outbuildings include a coach house and stable block that have planning consent to be converted into a residential cottage. The lease costs £3m, lasts for 20 years, and includes all the renovation plans.

It's a bit run down, though, and UK property consultancy Carter Jonas has been appointed to oversee the sale.

“The lease is being offered so as to give the incoming tenant the opportunity to undertake the refurbishment of the property with an agreed rent free or discounted rent period to reflect the investment made by the incoming tenant. The detailed terms of the lease are subject to negotiation,” they said.

“According to the architect’s plans, the estate estimates that the tenant will need to spend around £3m on a successful refurbishment. We are confident that Woodstock House will set a new benchmark for country house rents in Oxfordshire."
