Horseracing betting tips: Fry’s hurdler won’t be Behind for long at Newbury

PUNTERS heading to Newbury on Friday looking for Cheltenham Festival clues may not have to wait long as Nicky Henderson’s highly-regarded Jenkins is set to make his hurdling debut in the opener (12.30pm).

He is unlikely to be much of a price today, so the more speculative amongst you could do a lot worse than take the 12/1 freely available about him for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March.

The Seven Barrows team are not known for labelling their geese swans and this fellow is reportedly a bit special.

STILLETTO missed his intended reappearance at Cheltenham a fortnight ago, but has been found the perfect assignment in the Open Handicap Chase (2.45pm) by new handler Johnny Farrelly.

The seven-year-old was progressive for Paul Nicholls last season and proved himself well at home on soft ground. He is likely to get his ideal conditions this afternoon and the trip looks spot on, too. Take the 6/1 with Betway.

I was taken with BEHIND TIME at Cheltenham’s Open meeting and expect him to score again in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (3.20pm).

The further they went that day, the more comfortable he looked and he will relish the step up to three miles.

Trainer Harry Fry brought Unowwhatimeanharry to this meeting last year from that very same Cheltenham race and he ended up winning the Albert Bartlett.

I’m not saying Behind Time is in that same class, but I don’t think he’s stopped improving just yet.

If you’re feeling the chill, then purchase a limited edition Racing Post Christmas jumper for £19.99 from the RP Shop on course at Newbury on Friday – all proceeds go to Racing Welfare.
