Horse racing preview: David Pipe looks at his chances this weekend

IF THE forecast is to be believed, by the time you read this the snow will have hit us down in the West Country.

The team are ready for it and will work through the night to ensure we keep the show on the road.

Worst case scenario, and if things get really bad, we have the luxury of our indoor two-furlong canter surface, meaning the horses can exercise whatever the weather.

Prospects for action this weekend look pretty bleak with Sandown appearing the only jump racing track with half a chance.

I've declared MR CLARKSON for the Heroes Handicap Hurdle (3.00pm) and I'm hoping he'll outrun his price.

We've treated him for ulcers and he seems in good form now. He has a nice weight and I'm hopeful he might surprise a few.

Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to the organisers of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown this weekend.

Apple's Jade should be too good for them in Saturday's Irish Champion Hurdle (1.25pm), while I'm interested to see how Kemboy gets on in Sunday's Irish Gold Cup (3.35pm).

Many felt he benefited last time from a masterfully tactical ride, but if he was to win again he becomes a serious contender for the big one at Cheltenham in March.

Sadly I'll have to watch a recording as I'm off to watch Chelsea play Huddersfield on Sunday as part of a Christmas present for my son.

They didn't have the ideal prep race on Wednesday night losing 4-0, but can hopefully bounce back.

The Grand National entries were announced earlier this week and the dream is still alive for DAKLONDIKE, RAMSES DE TEILLEE and VIEUX LION ROUGE.

A couple of those are likely to head to Haydock in a couple of weeks for their trial, while the Eider Chase is another option available.
