Horse Racing: David Pipe’s Column

THIS season comes to an end at Sandown tomorrow where I'm hoping for a bit more rain for RATHLIN ROSE in the bet365 Gold Cup (3.35pm).

There is bits and bobs forecast, but whether that's a sufficient amount to help him enough remains to be seen.

He actually ran a good deal better than his finishing position implies in the Scottish Grand National where he just didn't seem to get home.

Therefore, the slight drop back in trip should be ideal and he deserves to take his chance.

Like I said, the more rain the better his chances.

The race looks wide open and there are plenty of obvious dangers including Alan King’s Talkischeap who may be off a nice mark.

My other likely runner at Sandown tomorrow is AIRTON in the opening handicap hurdle (1.50pm).

He will love the ground, stays well and there is no reason to think he won't outrun his odds in a pair of blinkers.

Finally, this is my last blog of the season and I hope you have enjoyed reading my thoughts every Friday.

The City Syndicate is virtually full with just a couple more shares available, so get in contact with me on 01884 840715 or email me at [email protected] if you are interested.

It’s fantastic to be part of a syndicate and we’re hoping for plenty of good days out next season.

We are currently looking for our first reasonably priced horse and obviously I will report back with any developments on that score.

In the meantime, make sure you are part of it and not just reading about it.
