Horse Racing Betting Tips: Fahey’s Space Traveller to leave punters over the moon

FOR RICHARD Fahey, the Ebor Festivval is like Royal Ascot.

There’s no other meeting on the racing calendar the Malton-based trainer targets more than these four days on the Knavesmire and he may well be rewarded this afternoon.

In the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes (3.00pm) he saddles SPACE TRAVELLER, who looks to have strong claims of giving the yard back-to-back wins in the race.

Sands Of Mali came home in front 12 months ago and this unbeaten son of Bated Breath has a leading chance of making it three wins from three.

He’s been impressive on both starts so far, particularly at Hamilton last time where he eased to a three-and-a-half-length win despite carrying a 6lb penalty.

The main danger appears to be Aidan O’Brien’s The Irish Rover, who looks a major player on paper.

His third in the Group One Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on his last start is about the strongest form on offer but the current form of the O’Brien yard is concerning.

The Ballydoyle handler has had just one winner on British soil since Glorious Goodwood, while I think there’s bundles more to come from Space Traveller, who looks well worth supporting at 7/2 with Ladbrokes.

Later on the card, in the highly valuable Convivial Maiden Stakes (4.15pm), I’m keen on the chances of SKY DEFENDER for the Mark Johnston team.

Johnston’s runner comes into this off the back of a really encouraging debut at Goodwood earlier this month, where a lack of experience eventually cost him.

He’s sure to have learnt plenty from that run and there looks to be loads more to come with William Buick booked.

Johnston knows the type required for this race, having won it last year with Dream Today, and Sky Defender can make two wins on the bounce for the Yorkshire handler at 5/2 with Coral.
