Horse Racing Betting Tips: Battaash out to blow Abbaye rivals away for a second time

WHEN the Charlie Hills-trained BATTAASH is on his A-game, there isn’t a better turf sprinter in the world, and he can bounce back in Sunday’s Prix de L’Abbaye (4.35pm).

For whatever reason, he hasn’t performed at his best in the last two renewals of the Nunthorpe at York, having looked unbeatable on his previous starts at Glorious Goodwood.

Arguably his best performance last season came in this race when it was run at Chantilly, where he blitzed his way to an emphatic four-length victory over Marsha.

This track will once again play to his strengths and I fancy him to burn them away at 6/4.

I had intended to recommend an each-way bet on City Light at around the 10/1 mark earlier in the week, but he has halved in price and wouldn’t have the gears to reel in an in-form Battaash.

Trainer Charlie Appleby has had a remarkable season and could easily land another valuable Group One prize with Wild Illusion in the Prix de L’Opera (3.50pm).

She has been freshened up since winning at Goodwood and won the Prix Marcel Boussac on this card 12 months ago.

However, I’m going to keep my powder dry and wait for the filly POLYDREAM in the Prix de La Foret

(5.15pm).

She started the season in disappointing fashion, where the combination of the trip and fitness caught her out when well beaten in the French 1000 Guineas.

The drop in distance has worked a treat ever since and her defeat of James Garfield in the Prix Maurice de Gheest reads well, with the third winning a Group One next time.

At 13/8, she looks banker material and can make up for that disappointing start to the season.
