Horse racing betting: Linguistic looks set to read the script perfectly for Gosden

There is some decent action at Chester and Ascot on Friday and the highlight on the Roodee is the Ormonde Stakes (3.10pm).

This Group Three prize has been won by some top class horses in recent years, but today’s contest doesn’t look that strong with Dartmouth top rated.

I don’t have a strong view so I’m going to focus on the Dee Stakes (2.40pm) instead where I expect John Gosden’s LINGUISTIC to follow-up his recent Newmarket win.

That was a fairly comfortable success and the trainer suggested afterwards that he’d head next to the Dante at York.

This race should be an easier assignment and I’m taking him to get the better of the Ballydoyle duo, Cook Islands and Housesofparliament.

My other selection at Chester is in the Betway EBF Stallions Handicap (3.45pm).

Kachy won the Group Three Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last summer, but he was disappointing in the Free Handicap at Newmarket on his reappearance.

He could bounce back here, although he is conceding plenty of weight to some lightly-raced types like John Quinn’s EL ASTRONAUTE.

My selection needed the run on his reappearance at Thirsk. The better ground will suit and he breaks from the plum draw in stall one.

Over at Ascot this evening, Clive Cox is fancied to continue his strong start to the season with ICE LORD in the six furlong handicap (7.05pm).

The four-year-old grey gelding was second to Englishman at Windsor on his reappearance, form which was franked by the winner going in again at Newmarket on Sunday.

This looks the right race for Ice Lord and I expect him to take all the beating.

El Astronaute 3.45pm Chester

Ice Lord 7.05pm Ascot
