Hong Kong Horse Racing Tips: Mr Lumieres set to light up Happy Valley for claimer Poon

WITH some of the fastest five furlong specialists in Hong Kong lining up in the Class2 handicap at 3.15pm, the phrase ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ certainly springs to mind.

If your horse misses the start by a stride, tear your ticket up! In a race around two bends – run at breathtaking speed, with the winner likely to clock under 57 seconds, the draw is going to play an all-important role.

In the last three seasons on the Happy Valley ‘B’ course, statistics show that horses drawn in the prime first stall have nearly a 25 per cent strike-rate.

That’s a big advantage, so luck will play an important part in the result. The ‘gods of fortune’ are finally smiling on trainer David Hall this term after last season’s disastrous campaign.

The Australian handler has already saddled four winners from just 20 runners and with the amount of firepower in his yard, he looks set for a big year.

Hall is represented by speedball MR LUMIERES, a winner of two of his four races, who has trialled twice in preparation for this contest, having won first time up last season.

Smart 5lb claimer, Matthew Poon, who is indentured to Hall’s stable, gets the ride on the five-year-old for the first occasion.

Hall has used Poon sparingly since he joined the HK jockey ranks in March 2017, but when he claims him, take note. They have already teamed up successfully this season.

If that wasn’t enough, Mr Lumieres has drawn the ‘golden ticket’ in terms of draw, allowing him to sit just behind the blistering early pace before going for glory down the home stretch.
